Hello everyone. Well it looks like fall is going to be very short lived. The changing of colors is not going to be around for long. Like the old saying goes, here today and gone tomorrow. Winter, it seems, is already knocking at our doors.

Normally we have a topic lined up for a Chapter meeting, but sometimes we miss getting it to the newsletter editor in time. Come to the meeting as there is always something interesting in store.

At the last meeting we had a round table discussion on Emergency procedures and forced landing. Rick Ramsey brought a Kings Video tape and then passed out some checklist for the members to carry in their pockets. Afterwards there was a good discussion with members sharing personal experiences.

Speaking of the next meeting, the November meeting is one that every member should try to attend. It has been two years since we had our last major election. We have had a new set of officers who stepped forward to run the Chapter and I am very proud to have the honor of working with them. They have worked very hard to make the chapter an interesting and fun place to be. Now comes the time for a new election of officers and one trustee.

If you are interested in one of the positions (including the President) come to the meeting or, if you can’t make the meeting, call or email an officer to let them know. If you have a question on what the duties entail, give Rick or me a call.

We have a very interesting 2006 lined up. The Chapter Hanger is now nearing completion so we will have a new place to meet and hold Chapter activities. There is a Chapter Fly-in being planned for the Thunder in the Valley Festival, and possibly, a visit from the EAA Tri-Ford or B-17.

I would like to welcome our new chapter member Dwayne Woodard.

See you all at the meeting on Tuesday.

Dave

There is now a link on our chapter web page to check avgas prices at every airport in the US. This is updated continuously and so should be current. See www.123oy.com/eaa.htm - ed

Hanger Update:

We had a meeting with Dick Hawkins, Dick Hazelip and Mike (contractor) on the buildings electrical needs. Mike showed us what we needed to purchase and what we had to do to stay within the Electrical Code.

1. Underground wire ran to Hanger
2. 100 amp Breaker Box
3. Emergency Lights (2)
4. Exit sign Lights (2)
5. Wall Plugs (110v & 220v)
6. Mercury Vapor Lights (6) ---- (on site)
7. Intruder alarm system (From old Building)

Some items have been donated to the building. As time goes on, we will continue to add to the list. If you have something you would like to donate for the meeting area or workshop let Tom C. know.

1. Portable work table (Future Workshop)
2. Socket Sets 1/4,3/8 & 3/4 (Future Workshop)
3. TV wall mount

Work as you can see is proceeding slowly, but coming along. We are looking for ideas from everyone in making this a place where everyone can come and have fun, work on their airplane or project and draw a new interest in aviation for our members and young people.

We will keep you informed on any work parties that will be set up for any one who wants to come on out and help.

Recycling Report
We would like to report through everyone’s efforts, a check was turned in for $500.00

Many members such as Rich Jeffers, Chuck Edwards, Tom Konecheck, Don Green , Dick Hawkins and Dick Hazelip, just to name a few that came to mind, have brought out many hundreds of lbs of newsletter, cardboard and Alu cans for the cause. In fact, without every ones help, this building wouldn’t have been possible. So keep bringing out your recyclables, it's a good fund raiser.

Christmas Banquet:
The Chapter Christmas dinner will be held in Steubenville at the Naples Restaurant Friday 2nd December 6:00 PM. Tom Cucarese has made the arrangements. There will be no other chapter meeting in December.

Chapter Raffle:
Looking for a cool Christmas Gift? Well, we might just have what you are looking for. Headquarters offered each Chapter a Leather EAA jacket for a Chapter Raffle and we applied and have just received ours.

The jacket is an XL so I think it will fit just about everyone. It looks very nice with a big EAA Eagle and emblem on the back.

We are now in the process of getting the tickets printed. They will ready for passing out at the November meeting or in the mail to those that can not make the meeting.

Cost per ticket $1.00 or 6 for $5.00.
It has been a long time since we had a Chapter Raffle, your help will be most welcome in selling as many as you can to make this a big success.

Engine Beat
AD Affects Aftermarket Rods In 2,800 Lycoming Engines
The FAA has issued an Airworthiness Directive AD on certain ECi connecting rods installed as part of a repair or overhaul found in about 2,800 Lycoming 360- and 540-series engines in service in the U.S. The FAA determined that the connecting rods covered by the AD have deficiencies in the journal bores that can cause fatigue and/or bearing failure, which can result in "uncommanded shutdown" of the engine. Offending rods that have seen more than 1,500 hours of service have to be replaced within 50 hours and the others must be replaced before reaching 1,500 hours. The engines have been installed in dozens of certified and experimental aircraft. The repairs, according to the FAA's math, will cost about $700 per engine (we think it could be a lot more) and ECi has said it might give credit for returned connecting rods. Another AD affecting crankshafts in 1,128 engines in the same families takes effect on Oct. 21. The repair cost on those engines is estimated at more than $16,000 but Lycoming has said it will supply the parts for free.

Wood, Glue & Rivets:
Jerry Goodwin has sold his Coot. Pictured here on the start of a long drive to Arizona. The new owner said that his wife asked him to buy a boat so he did.

Short Final... (Thanks to AvWeb)
Short Final...
Overheard during fleet week practice over the San Francisco Bay;

Nor Cal Approach: Bonanza 1-2-3-4, opposite direction traffic at your 1 o'clock, five miles, five hundred feet above you, Blue Angels flight of two.

Bonanza 1-2-3-4: Negative contact, say again type traffic.

Nor Cal: Two F-18s, blue and yellow. Currently at your one moving to two o'clock ... make that three o'clock ... um ... traffic no longer a factor. Caution, wake turbulence.
